GORDONS IN THE FIELD
 

The Duke of Gordon developed the Gordon Setter breed in Scotland in the 1700's to improve his kennel of hunting dogs. These early dogs, known as Castle Gordons, were bred to "sette" when scenting game, thus enabling the hunters to toss nets over the covey.

These hunting genes are very evident in today's Gordon Setters. Many of our dogs establish point in a low, crouched, intense position much like the setting dog of yesteryear. The Gordon of today also has inherited the remarkably keen nose and will catch scent of his quarry from many yards away "slamming" into a dazzling point. There are few things more breathtaking then to watch your own Gordon in action, doing what it was bred to do over 200 years ago.

The Sunbelt Gordon Setter Club, under the banner our parent, the Gordon Setter Club of America, encourages participation of our Gordons in the many field events available in and around Texas. To this end, we host an AKC Pointing Dog Hunting Test each February and have a "Meet The Birds" event at our Gordon Get together each fall. Since Sunbelt's inception in 1994, we now have several dogs that have done their jobs well:
