Keno Ch Chaparral U Hit The Jackpot, JH, NA, CGC, AD, FDCh February 28, 1991 – May 29, 2003 Look at those feet! Both Bill and I couldn’t see anything but huge paws when the airline cargo employee rolled out the dog kennel. From it came a most confident 9-week old puppy who had just flown in from Vegas! Keno turned out to be one the sweetest dogs I’ve lived with, and I was certain that my precious Cocker Spaniel, Angel, had sent him to me after she passed away. I needed another lap dog and while MOST people wouldn’t think that an 80-pound Gordon Setter is a lap dog, we all know differently – don’t we? We had a great time – the show ring, hunt tests, agility trials and flyball. I just have to toot Keno’s horn because he will remain in breed record books for several of our accomplishments. Keno was the first Gordon Setter to earn an Agility Dog® title in the USDAA titling program. He was the second Gordon to earn the Flyball Dog Champion title awarded by NAFA. While other Gordons passed us by in the AKC agility program, he did overcome his see-saw phobia to earn a Novice Agility title which combined with the breed championship and JH title brought the first Beauty, Brains and Birdsense award to Texas. Keno’s accomplishments were by no means confined to the most commonly recognized dog sports. His favorites were those for which no trophy or ribbon is awarded. STEALTH: He could sneak out of the front yard at our lake house and cover the campground before you could blink. 5-TOE DISCOUNT: Once I watched, horrified, from a distance as he pushed open the top of a cooler left outside a tent by a hapless camper to retrieve a length of sausage. DOG-ORIGAMI: If the toilet paper was left on the roller, it was picked clean of all paper and the remaining cardboard scrunched up during the attempt to extricate it. NON_DISCRIMINATORY CHEWING: Doc Martins, Merrells, Naturalizers, Vans. He graciously accepted all rescues brought into the house and played a
vital role in bringing up Bam!, our mini-schnauzer. Not only will our entire
family miss Keno-Mon, so will everyone whose lives he touched. What a dog! |
